A Dog's Purpose(direction -Lasse Halstrom) is an endearing watch for canine lovers. But here's the catch - since when does a dog reincarnate as another breed of dog, and still remember his first owner?Animals never search out the meaning or purpose of life, either. That's all in man's head - Biology 101,remember? There is the expected bonding between the human and their four-legged companion which presents some beautiful moments onscreen. What is disturbing, though, is that a man's way of thinking is projected through the mind of his pet - too much analyzing and purpose-seeking to seem real.Only when the credits rolled did I find out that the film was the adaptation of a book of the same title by Bruce Cameron, which released me from my ill-founded judgement. Atleast the storyline was tribute to man's love for his pet.And for love like that, forgiveness is readily given.Music by Rachel Portman and cinematography by Terry Stacey are truly lyrical and idyllic.Watch it if you can spare a couple hours for your furry friends, dreamy landscapes and in this case, a dog's perspective of human life.
Today, I got a chance to behold the changing art scene in my country, on attending a film festival of sorts.Filmmakers seem to be reacting to the noise on and off celluloid, through mostly silent creations.I list a few of my favourites here: A Beast Called Beauty - directed by Aakanksha Chitkara Maybe because I am a woman living at a time when India is renowned for objectification of and heinous crimes against women, this documentary film struck me the most and inspired this post. The film voices the common woes of our sex racked by the rigid concepts of beauty set by the society; a situation only worsened by the marketing techniques of fairness creams and other beauty products. However, the movie ends on a happy note, with the featured females professing to have realised that they have accepted who they are, and are content with themselves.I hope every girl out there does the same.
