*WARNING - SPOILERS*
Wazir. What do I write about this film?I had followed its promotion faithfully, starting with the release of the simple love song,'Tere Bin',which is still a favourite of mine.Perhaps even mores so,after watching the film today.I knew there was something special about this film right from the moment I saw the trailer(I get this feeling only regarding rare films.'Iyobinte Pusthakam' and 'Piku' come to mind.).There is something truly charismatic about the bond Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar share in this movie. Both of them grieve for their lost daughters, murdered,no less, and unite for the cause of revenge-playing the roles of Omkar Nath Dhar,a prodigious chess master ,and Dhanish Ali,a brave ATS officer, respectively. The movie lasts a short 1 hour 43 minutes, and yet offers heart-rendering performances by the lead actors, and Aditi Rao Hydari looks every bit the beautiful mother she plays in the film.Hats off to Bejoy Nambiar,Vidhu Vinod Chopra and the rest of the team!I don't know what critics mean by "the obvious flaws" of this film.Maybe because of my prejudiced love for these two great actors,I didn't notice any.
At the end,'Wazir' is revealed to be nothing but a character made up by Panditji to trick Dhanish into carrying out the revenge, which he was incapable of,owing to his disability, though he definitely tried of his own accord. This concept reminded of two other films I've watched which employed this technique, albeit for more evil purposes-'Shutter Island' and 'Secret Window'.Both these films show their protagonists creating a fictitious persona to cover up the murders they committed themselves.Atleast Panditji did it for nobler intentions.(No criticism intended,it was merely an observation of a human tendency.)
'Atrangi Yaari',being describes as "The frienship song of the year" is another song which is close to my heart.'Tu Mere Paas',sung by Ankit Tiwari struck a chord with me only post-movie,though.
Farhan seems to strike gold with every film he does of late(I loved him in Dil Dhadakne Do!).Or maybe it's not recent;I just have not been noticing.I regret not watching great films like 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' at theatres.I've clearly lost my chance.I haven't even watched 'Dil Chahtha Hai'or 'Rock On!',for crying out loud!I'm so disappointed with myself.
I'm so happy with the choices Big B is making regarding projects,'Piku' is a film I'll cherish forever.I watched on the day of release, which I still remember clearly to be May 8,2015.And 'Wazir' hit theatres on January 8,2015.I'll have to look out for this number;it seems to be a lucky date pointing to films which I must not miss!
